Known as ‘The Pearl of France’, the city of Menton is located on the French Riviera near the Italian border. Overlooking the blue Mediterranean waters, this destination has colourful houses with red roofs, golden beaches and a harbour with fishing boats and yachts.
Built by the architect Laurent Lavagna, the 17th century Basilica of Saint-Michel-Archange is a historic Baroque-style church with an imposing belltower. Home to the Jean Cocteau Museum, the 17th century Bastion was once a defensive fort. Today, this museum hosts a great collection of ceramics and a unique mosaic.
Wander around the pedestrian streets of the old town, relax in a traditional cafe or discover the green gardens of the city, including the Jardin Serre de la Madone and the Botanical Garden.
Thanks to its mild climate, Menton is a great place for citrus trees to grow. During the annual Lemon Festival, visitors will have the chance to admire the huge composition of oranges and lemons.
The railway station of Menton-Garavan has regular connections with the cities of Cannes, Nice and Ventimiglia. Booking.com will help you find a hotel, apartment or resort in Menton and the gorgeous Côte d'Azur.

Menton located to the east of Nice and Monaco is near the border of Italy. A charming city where we found the local restaurants very good. Our favorite was O Petite Corner for morning breakfast operated by a young couple that take great pride in their restaurant and the quality. My two top restaurants were JR Bistro in Menton and Au Grand Inquisitor that is located in a small city on top of the mountain towards Monaco. Au Grand Inquisitor takes a little effort to get there but the views were amazing, and the dinner one of the best meal experiences ever. Each of these highest ratings and I secretly recommend for 5 star experience.

Menton is a lovely town with lots of character and pretty views
It is lovely just to stroll through the old town or along the promenade by the sea.
The beaches are clean and quite sheltered as in a bay. A large section of beach front is being renovated with new decking a walkways (the part nearest the town is already complete), these works should be finished in June 2024. It looks as though it will be very classy when finished with more shops and restaurants.
There are some lovely gardens but unfortunately they were closed on the day we walked round - see below
The coloured houses of the old town are very attractive and make for great photos.
The 'Petit Train' is worth taking as it shows you places you might want to explore and gives you great views from the top of the town. Booking is recommended - can be done online through the Tourist Office
The town felt very safe - we had no security issues
Note that some shops and restaurants are closed on a Monday and main attractions such as the exotic gardens and the cathedral are closed on Tuesdays. The Jean Cocteau was closed for repairs and renovation it was not clear when this would re-open
There are lots of nice restaurants but the better ones are those slightly tucked away. Some along the main drag seemed quite touristy. Check the reviews as usual.

Beautiful Italianate town …. gorgeous views everywhere … sadly , not many restaurants open in the evenings in March .
Val Rahmeh garden stunning … well worth a visit … a short bus ride away …. And the cemetery has incredible views …
L’Orangeraie hotel does great meals for non residents … and very reasonable price !
And take the bus up to Gorbio , ancient village perche … fabulous day out !
The sea seems right outside the coast-facing rooms and the view from the table and chairs on the balcony is wonderful: morning sunshine and a long view of the bay. Note there is a road with traffic between the sea and the hotel, busy at peak times but also a bus route which is helpful.
Breakfast was excellent and included in our room rate: buffet with lots of options and all very fresh and good.
There is a private beach and bar belonging to the hotel but not in sight of it - 5 mins walk along the coast away from Menton.
The location is perfect, we did both the breakfast and dinner option, both were very good and very convenient. If the selection for dinner was not of your taste there was usually a second choice they may offer. Having both breakfast and dinner taken care of it was easy to just enjoy the day. We stayed on the 6th floor no balcony but a beautiful seaview with large windows that open wide. We look forward to our next stay in Menton and I first choice will be at this hotel.
Very clean
But the bed was broken and for €80 euro a night I expected more
Thé fold away bed would be ok for a couple of nights but when you are working 10 hrs a day you need a comfortable bed and this just didn’t cut it
The hotel down the road was only €65
But Very close to the train station so convenient & that’s why it was chosen
Menton is lovely & I wish I’d had more time
A beautiful Hotel in a great location overlooking the sea. All Staff very helpful & friendly. A large comfortable room with a large bed and fresh linens. A small but perfectly formed Bathroom with a great shower & toiletries. A fantastic balcony overlooking the Pool with a great view - especially of the sunrise. An easy walk into Menton along the Promenade.
-It's very good value for the amount you pay.
The hotel is very close to the sea.
-The hotel staff speaks English! That's almost unique in France.
-You can eat your breakfast outside! With sea view! This is a massive plus!
-If something is not good, the staff is willing to think with you, also unique in France..
Very very clean which made my stay extra comfortable. Location good for Menton Garavan train station, beaches, easy walk to the centre and old town. Lovely people who made me very welcome and very helpful when needed. Went to the extra trouble of carring my case up due to the lift being out. I will go back.
The staff is incredibly welcoming, and eager to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Every time I've flagged something, they were super quick to help fix it.
The location is perfect, everything is in walking distance2, and for the South of France the facilities are good as well.
The style and decoration of the hotel was perfection. The staff was incredibly helpful. The room and view were so so great. Breakfast was tasty. Parking was very close. I honestly will come back for much longer next time and will definitely be staying here.
Beautiful apartment, very clean, newly renovated, wonderful view over sea and old town, large terrace, comfortable beds, pool, AC and well equipped kitchen.
Perfect situated in Garavan for bike rides in the mountains in Italy and France. Friendly hosts :)
Fantastic hotel in a great location.
Owner/management was such a delight, very warm and welcoming.
Breakfast was simple but very adequate.
Very comfortable bed and good sized bathroom.
Would definitely stay again if visiting Menton.
We had a nice sea view from our room. The pillows were comfortable and the A/C worked well. There was a lot of space in the room which I appreciated. It has a great location for the beach as it’s like a 2 min walk from the hotel.
The location was excellent, near shops, beach, and many restaurants. A great location to walk around the city, visit shops, and walk to many different types of restaurants. The hotel was clean, charming, and well managed.
The hotel was very good value for money. Close to the sea. We could see the sea from our balcony on the 6th floor.
The room was spotless, and the staff was very attentive. Good breakfast.
Overall the hotel is nice but what I enjoyed the most is the surroundings. The garden is beautiful with orange trees in blossom. The staff is very polite and helpful. The location is perfect.
