Made famous for its “hills alive with the sound of music”, Salzburg is a very pretty town filled with romantic buildings and squares. If you are not yet aware that Mozart was born here, then you will be as soon as you land at Salzburg W.A. Mozart
International Airport. Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus.
The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.
The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.
The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.
Salzburg is just beautiful. You only need 2-3 days to explore but it's well worth a visit. The Hohensalzburg Fortress is a must see and will fill up a morning; whilst there is a funicular up to it (the walk is very steep), we took the elevator to Winkler Terrace and then walked along a clifftop walk to the fortress and were rewarded with the most spectacular views on the other side of the cliff. The Mirabelle Palace Gardens are also very scenic (famous as a filming location in the Sound of Music) and the view across the gardens to the fortress is spectacular.

Salzburg is lovely with the mountains visible from almost every part of the city. It's a walkers paradise and for longer distances public transportation is more than adequate. The bus connections are on point. Most of them driving to or past city attractions. Also, public transport is very affordable as it should be in every major city. Salzburg food scène is not subject to mindless consumption like other major cities which is actually a welcome breath of fresh air. On a major holiday, we were shocked to find out that most restaurants were closed. However there are enough places to eat with good and friendly staff, tasty food and especially, well priced for good portions. So yes Salzburg is lovely to visite.

We stayed a week, which would probably be too long for the average visitor, but we wanted a slow pace and to do things beyond the city.
Must-do sights: Residenz (which affords a view into the cathedral), Mozart birth house, Mirabell gardens, Hellbrunn (a short bus ride). The Hohensalzburg fortress too, though the views are its best feature, interior a bit ho-hum.
Best places we ate at: for veggie fare, Heart of Joy and for fabulous Austrian fare, Alte Fuchs and Johanneskellar (all of these in 'new town' area).
In general, just wandering around is nice.
Oh, and don't forget all the Sound of Music stuff (the four hour tour was very good).

Salzburg is a beautiful city, with great facilities and friendly people. There is plenty to do, the Fortress (Catle) is interesting and the exhibits have changed since the last time we visited. Museum of Modern Art may interest you. Multiple museums to visit. If you’re into the Sound of Music, or Mozart there is much to see. Good location to visit other places like the Salzkammergut. Many reasonable food and drink places in the city - Sternbräu is one of our favourites - and a visit to the Stiegl brewery is worth a thought. Salzburg card worth considering - gives you free public transport and free entry to many tourist sites. 3 day card 46 euros, we easily got 100 euros value and could have had more if we had pushed it.
LOVED the location and history associated with the hotel. On top of a mountain, great to hike to castles 🏰 and other historical sites. There is
a short walk on a trail to get to a lift (if you don't want to walk down the mountain) that will take you down to the old part of the city. Or take a taxi to Old Town for €14. Lots of shopping, restaurants, beautiful buildings, etc..
Scrumptious breakfast buffet with lots of choices. Rooms very clean and spacious with wonderful views of Salzburg and the Alps.
Check in and Check out was quick, the reception staff were friendly and helpful, they even provided me with a Salzburg Card to be able to attain quick access to all the attractions and museums without needing to wait in queue. The Hotel was in a a great location just 15 min walk to the city center and old town. The food for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner were delicious and the beds were very comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and if i were to re-visit Salzburg again I would stay here.
Amazing, clean and convenient small hotel. Despite its size, it gives you an exclusive feeling: well-designed rooms, great restaurant, small yet new and beautiful wellness and fitness area, children game room. Staff is very friendly and helpful and the kitchen staff produces magic (kudos to Sofia). Easy access by bus to the Old Town, you can also get Salzburg card at the hotel. Parking is ample, easy and convenient, which is a great thing when visiting cities like Salzburg.
Location in old town was great, easy walking distance to Christmas Market, Museum etc. Took bus #10 to the airport, one bus and a 1 minute walk to bus stop. Communication, emailed, was easy and response to questions was immediate. Next door to 2 restaurants, Meiers, known for great steaks, Hofers know for traditional Austrian food, would recommend both. The combination of old and new and built into the side of the hill was a nice touch.
I liked the reception staff who very helpful with information on getting around Salzburg, advising on Austria’s Covid rules, and making recommendations on the city’s offerings.
The property’s room was well designed with good climate control, bright lighting, daily cleaning, and great amenities. The hotel is accessible through Salzburg ‘s superb public transit system.
Highly recommended.
Exceptional location (2 mins walk from Salzburg central railway station with mall next door meant convenience as well as a plethora of dining options) of this hotel made it a winner for us! Room although small was functional and well-appointed. A bit far from old town where most of the attractions were but hotel which is well-served by buses and trains helps to mitigate this issue.
Located in a quiet residential area, about a 10 minute walk into Salzburg old town but some shops and restaurants are only 5 minutes away. Good room nicely furnished. Had a problem with our original room but this was dealt with quickly and efficiently by the friendly staff on reception. We did not have breakfast in the hotel so can’t comment on the food
Great hotel with amazing artwork throughout. Loved the Marilyn Monroe bathroom door in the room. Super friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast. 2.5km walk from the Old Town that we enjoyed on a daily basis. There are also bus stops right outside the front door. We would definitely stay there again when we come back to Salzburg.
Love the apartment hotel. Room is very spacious, and well equipped with stove for light cooking and utensils. Takes about 15 minutes to the Old Town, but no worries, the walk along the Salzach river is rewarding. Didn't try their breakfast, so not able to comment. Will definitely stay at Villa Elisa again if i visit Salzburg
Very nice hotel if you don’t need top end luxury. The location couldn’t have been better. Just a 5 minute walk to the old town and only a 15 minute taxi ride to the airport. Breakfast had a good selection of continental and scrambled eggs. The staff was pleasant, helpful and spoke good English.
Beautiful modern hotel. Affordable and well located with incredible view of the city. Just 15 minutes away from the city center. Luxury room filled with high tech and a super cool shower. Breakfast is served on the 15th floor and is outstanding. Great place to stay if you visit ever Salzburg.
The hotel is very well situated. It's in the old town, walking distance to everything and very close to the bus route to Untersberg. It was comfortable and very clean when we stayed. The staff were knowledgeable and gave great information on what to do around Salzburg.
The best thing about this hotel is the location in old town near tourist sites and restaurants. Our room was very quiet, and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast buffet was attractive and tasty, and the breakfast room was pleasant. Staff will cook eggs to order.
Amazing location, very comfortable, old fashioned (in a good way) charming room, friendly staff and the most amazing breakfast we have ever had at a small hotel. I wouldnt stay anywhere else if coming back to Salzburg. I would come back just for the breakfast.
The location is excellent in the very heart of Salzburg. All old town venues at a short walking distance. Staff very kind and helpful. Parking for hotel guests.
Lovely hotel that meets all one’s needs, amenities and detailed touches give a luxury feel. Great location minutes to the old town, helpful and kind staff.
Hotel was very in a good location, close to both city centre and Salzburg train station. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful.
