Departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centred around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.
There is much older history in the city centre where the 15th-century city walls are amongst the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.
Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Centre, while high street stores in the city centre and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city is well served by theatres, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.
There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks are Grade II-listed. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.
If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

This was my second stay in Southampton and I have enjoyed it both times. There is plenty to see with the museums and galleries. The food options are very good with lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. I really liked all the parks and open spaces. Taxis are easy to get and you can also pre book which is what we did to get back and forth to the cruise terminal. We traveled in and out of Southampton airport and it is a great airport as it is small and friendly and probably nicest airport experience I have ever had.

The Pub across the road does not serve food.
The Pub across the road does not serve food. There are several places to eat roughly 1 mile away, a 15 minute walk. The Mayflower Village Pub served excellent meals and drinks. Ristorante Italiano also served very good Italian food. There is a Subway close by that is open for breakfast. We Ubered from the bus station and to the cruise terminal.

We went to Southampton to go to the Mayflower theatre which is good value compared to London theatres. It has lots of shows and good facilities. We will go back. We also had a good dinner at Papillon which is opposite the theatre. We stayed at the Ibis which is good value and well located for the Mayflower.
Loved loved loved asolutely everything!! Completely Surpassed every expectation I had. All the little details throughout the rooms and in the hotel helped make the stay. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and were always so helpful. Brekkie was divine, lunch on the terrace just as good, the way it is set out with the restaurant, lounge and terrace is perfect. If you get the chance to go,go!! I'm already looking into booking my next visit, it was that good. Thank you Southampton Harbour Hotel for a perfect stay 😊
Highly recommend The Lighthouse. 5⭐

We stayed at this hotel for only one night but I will definitely be making it one of my favourite place's to stay when near Southampton the food/staff atmosphere cleanliness everything about this hotel was excellent and the young girl who helped me when I arrived was so helpful and polite 5☆☆☆☆☆
The room faced the harbour so you could see the cruise ships coming in, the bed was confortable WiFi worked well breakfast was very good a bonus you could park in the hotel carpark, near the town centre. photos attached taken from hotel balcony and the cruise terminal
We have stayed several times and we like the hotel; it's convenient for the city centre but also close to Peppa Pig World, our main destination when in Southampton. Mcdonalds very close by or with a short walk the main shipping centre which includes Wagamammas etc.
The choice of breakfast was exceptional. The bed was large and comfortable and the room was spacious. The staff working there were kind and helpful. There was a parking facility for the hotel(for a daily rate of 7GBP)
From check in, to dinner in the restaurant onsite. The hotel was excellent. We got a free room upgrade with a view of the cricket pitch which was a really nice touch to our weekend. I would defiantly stay again.

Location of the hotel - in the very city centre ! This is why I chosen this hotel.
Car park - conveiently behind of the hotel and cheap.

OK over all but I do not agree this is 4 star hotel.
the hotel was very clean and appeared well run. Having a working fridge for my extended stay was imperative to me. I understand many are not working I think this needs to be addressed
