Durango is a great place to stay if you are visiting Bilbao which was busy, congested and expensive to stay and eat. Durango is a 20 minute Metro trip to Bilbao old town, it is a peaceful and quiet town with many inexpensive restaurants and cheap accommodation.

Durango is a lovely place to experience the Basque way of life. It is not particularly a tourist destination as such, but for me that is the appeal. Not many people speak English, but they will go out of their way to be helpful. That said, it would not do any harm to learn a few basic words and phrases of Spanish, or Basque if you are brave. Durango is surrounded by mountains, which are nothing short of spectacular to see. Take a bus, or train ride to Bilbao (Bilbo to the locals)(cost €2.55), or San Sebastian (Donostia) to see some beautiful scenery. Lekeitio is a lovely seaside resort not so far from Durango with not a roast beef dinner in sight. Speaking of which, do not expect the type of dining experience you would get in Ireland or Britain. The basques like to wander from bar to bar, having only one or two drinks and/or snacks in each place. Measures of beer tend to be small. This is to ensure that they stay cold until you are finished them. Moving from place to place normally means that everyone gets to meet all their friends when they are out. Also, this activity rarely starts before 22:00 or later and can continue well into the early hours. In summary, I love the place and I'm very happy to recommend it.

We stayed outside the town centre in a lovely village called Garai. The town of Durango was a little disappointing as most restaurants where tapas bar not restaurants. Nice atmosphere in the evening though. Unfortunatly the 3 restaurants in the village we stayed were closed in the evening

Wonderful town, such character, young and classy at the same time. We ate at the hotel Olajauregi which was wonderful and had drinks in their garden. The old town offers plenty of restaurants and bars, very vibrant.

Absolutely fabulous! This little hotel is immaculately presented. Located in a fabulous position in the mountains not very far away from our main route down through Spain. It has been stunningly finished. Our room was very large and the design was top class and in keeping with the chalet style building that we were in. The bed was deliciously comfortable - we had masses of space - the views were stunning - it was immaculately clean - I can't rate it enough!

The hotel was located in the quaint village of Durango, which close to the town square and metro station for trains to Bilbao. We were pleasantly surprised by the 'high standard' of gastronomic choices in the Hotel restaurant, in particular the Sunday lunch set menu, which was excellent! The quality and unique choices on the set menu were superb. The Spa was very relaxing and had a wonderful hydro spa. Overall hotel was perfect for our needs.

Errota Ostatua offers excellent value for money, and is a handy base for visiting Durango and the nearby Urkiola Natural Park. It's well located, in a nice quiet neighbourhood not far from the Old Town. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff very friendly and helpful. Errota offers very good facilities: there is a nice café downstairs with a small garden, and guests also have access to a gym (although I didn't use it).

Kind, helpful, informative people and a home-like setting. The owner's were so kind, and offered great suggestions for the area. You're literally less than 5 minutes away from Durango. Breakfast was made to order and wonderful! Really felt like you were staying with family. The bed was comfortable. This was a great value for the money!

Beautiful property tucked away behind Durango. The owner was super friendly, accommodating and made a great breakfast ☺️ The property was well situated between Urkiola and Durango. Kitchen fully stocked with utensils (including wine glasses). It was a lovely place to cook and sit by the fire after our hike.

Everything is very clean and new, apparently the hotel gas been renovated recently. I was happy to find the bad reviews outdated and not relevant anymore. The Hotel and the Restaurant Team is fantastic, very helpful and friendly. Location is good. All in all it is a very good value for money.

I liked the style of the building and the ambiance. Facilities to enjoy a drink outside in the sunshine. Stunning mountain scenery at your doorstep. I forgot to bring an electrical adaptor (senior moment), but very nice lady in the hotel provided a phone charger to me, which saved the day.
