It was everything that one would expect from a Holiday Inn on the edge of town. Which is to say, an average commercial-style hotel that is slightly overpriced for the convenience of being close to the airport in advance of your early-morning departure, with respect to which it is very convenient that a number of taxis sit just outside waiting for you to stumble out at 0430. The staff were nice; the room was clean and bright; the TV of an excellent size for watching playoff hockey. There was a nice little pond next to the building around which to stroll, and perfectly-acceptable fast-ish food (pizza, Asian, sandwiches) within walking distance. Would I stay here for more than one night? Well, no. There are much nicer options in town. But, as a convenient final stop before boarding an early-morning flight, it got the job done just fine.
This historic St. John’s property features a full spa with a variety of treatments. An electric fireplace, mini fridge and free WiFi are provided in all guest rooms.

I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit.
I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit. The facilities for tourists have really increased over the last 20 years and there are a lot of great restaurants and shops for tourists to experience. The sites in a city that is 400 years old are quite varied and there is ready access to nature visiting sites as well within an hour of the city core.
Pack for pretty variable weather that trends to cooler and damper.

The city offers so much history and with a wonderful presentation at The Rooms. We had a fun screeched in ceremony at Christians with skipper Lukey. The view from signal Hill shows it all. Cape spear and Quidi Vidi can not be missed as well. Especially having lunch at the Mallard Cottage and an Iceberg at the brew company. The waterfront in St. John’s is very interesting and worth the walk.

We stayed at this hotel upon arriving at the airport at 2:30 am.
Shuttle was waiting by the time we got to the pick up point. Great service. Friendly reception. Sufficient breakfast offerings. Great staff in all areas. Perfect for our needs.
Unexpectedly, we spent a second night at the end of our trip when our flight to Toronto was cancelled. Again--great staff in all areas.

Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall.
Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall. Very hilly, I will definitely be in better shape before my next visit (the unexpected humidity was exhausting, but we made the best of that!)
Everything was close by, very easy to get around.

Best recommendation is: Take the Metro Bus from your hotel to the Pedestrian Plaza on Water Street for shopping and restaurants. It is closed off for the summer and the shopping is delightful. Lots of outdoor patios. We chose one of the outdoor pubs for fish and chips and a local brew. Perfect! Now walk up the stairs at the Courthouse and see the Jelly Bean Houses. Pier 10 is a great place to see the cruise ships docking. Just down the hill from Water Street, this is where the bus lets you off. Catch the Hop on Hop off for lots of sights - located outside of the Alt Hotel on Water Street.

St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place.
St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place. If you love nature , it is the place for you , yet it also has great restaurants and nightlife and the people there are amazingly friendly and proud of their culture and province . There is a lot of talent from there and the art is amazing .So they will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and bring you the best experience ever. !
The ALT Hotel in St. John's Newfoundland, is located on the harbour in the heart of Jelly Bean Row. It's a photographer's paradise. My small dog, Sparky, and I roamed the streets snapping photographs of the wonderfully coloured houses and stores. The hotel is also close to the famous George Street the location of nightly live musical performances and Water Street with its vast selection of good restaurants. Loved the neighbourhood! Lynda L. Lock (author of the Isla Mujeres Mysteries and also the Death in the Vineyards Mysteries).
Blue on Water is a lovely little boutique hotel in the heart of downtown. You can walk to a huge number of restaurants and bars. They also have a bar and restaurant in the hotel which were both very good. The staff was very friendly and went out of their was to be helpful. A special shout out to Alex at the bar who makes the best margaritas north of Mexico. The attention to detail in the décor is simply amazing and it's so clean. We absolutely loved our stay here and will return in the future.
I booked online at your hotel for a medical appointment that was 10 hours from where I live! Had a confirmation number for the booking, got there to check in and the hotel said that there wasn’t a reservation for me! The clerk did find me a room at the sister hotel fortunately but it was downtown in an area that I would never have booked a room in but due to nothing available I had to take it but I would never book with Capital again now!
The location near the airport, the university, and the town was useful for us. We used the hotel shuttle to get to the hotel late at night on arrival and walked 10 minutes to pick up our rental car in the morning to tour around. Easy ride to go downtown. The location made our visit efficient and cost-effective. The restaurant at the hotel is great and very convenient as well. We highly recommend it.
Warmth and welcome hospitality of our hosts. Beautiful, comfortable rooms (during our first stay at the beginning of our holiday in Newfoundland and also for our 2nd stay at the end of our holiday). We especially loved the Queen Spa Room. Breakfasts were casual, delicious & perfect for what we needed and the downtown location was awesome. Can’t wait to come back.
It’s location was right on Water St. Which is closed of to traffic from July to September. Lots of excellent restaurants (including Blue on Water). Very short walk to harbour. The room was very clean and unique. Staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. If I was returning to Newfoundland, I would definitely stay there again.
Location of hotel, location of our room handy to the handicap parking, breakfast. Shuttle to and from the airport is a great guest friendly service. The fellow who picked us up on Thursday night was terrific. (Forgot his name). Front desk staff cheerful and courteous.
Wonderful breakfast attractively served and delivered to your door. Every design element of the inn was carefully considered and reflected the beauty and culture of Newfoundland. Not a sour note anywhere. We enjoyed visiting with other guests in the common room.
The location of the place worked well for us, it was close to the highway and not too far from downtown so it was easy to move back and forth. It was also close to our car rental location. Breakfast wasn’t provided but they did have muffins, coffee and tea.
The hotel is a heritage mansion that has been beautifully updated. The room was easily the most elegant hotel room in which we have stayed for many years. The breakfast was adequate and the location is excellent, only a brief walk to the downtown core.
We stayed in this hotel for two night at the start and end of our trip. The place is clean, staff are friendly and location is a short walk (or drive) to restaurants and shopping. About 5km to downtown St John’s - which we walked.
Hotel is in a great location close to highways so good for exploring St. Johns and the surrounding area. Rooms were cozy and clean. Nice to be able to have cars right outside the rooms. Staff is friendly and helpful.
