The location was excellent, being just a few minutes' walk from the High Street and local buses. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We had 2 evening meals at the hotel restaurant ( The Green Room) and they were outstanding, particularly the locally caught fresh fish.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

Colchester is a gem.
Colchester is a gem. Lovely architecture and sights, good cafes and pubs, shopping and eateries. It's not at all dog friendly, though, which is a big drawback if you ask me. Come on, Colchester, Britain loves its pets!
The hotel is being refurbished, but we were aware of this and it did not interfere with our experience. The room we stayed in was newly refurbished and was modern and great. We were visiting family in a nursing home nearby and this was a great deal of bed, dinner and breakfast included. We used the pool and sauna which is functional but in need of modernisation, but no complaints as there was no fee to use this, plenty of parking and just off the A12. We would stay again. The food was also good.
Everything about this hotel was amazing. It was cheap without it feeling and looking cheap. The staff were really welcoming from the minute we set foot through the door. Special mention to Julie who was a real gem; so engaging and genuine.
Theres a restaurant on site, breakfast was exceptional. The bar is well stocked and not excessively priced.
Rooms were spacious and the beds were super comfy. Had a great night sleep.
Location - central colchester, high street is a short walk away.
Cosy, comfortable hotel with period features within walking distance of the historic centre Colchester. Well appointed rooms. All the staff were welcoming and provided very good levels of customer service. Bar open in the evening. The breakfast was delicious. Car park on site was a little tight in places, but there was always a space available. Would definitely visit again.
The hotel was just outside Colchester off the A12. The hotel is being renovated, however we heard no construction noise during our stay. We were put in the new wing which has been beautifully renovated. We were first put into a double room and when we questioned it, the friendly receptionist changed us over to a twin. It had a huge TV and 2 comfortable 3 quarter size beds.
Loved it . Staff friendly they went the extra mile to ensure we had a good stay .parking was clear and easy . Check in excellent very quick .. Breakfast was good freshly cooked . Position of hotel good for castle and shops . It was very quiet although our room was at the front .
Very clean we had a coffee maker and a kettle also fresh milk provided .
Location was perfect. Right near the high Street with pubs and restaurants. Chosen for its closeness to the Colchester Arts Centre where we attended a gig. Lovely hotel, quirky little room in the Stable block with a comfy bed. Very friendly welcoming staff. Continental breakfast with plenty of choice. We would stay again if we come back to Colchester.
Bit concerned about booking a hotel on the High Street because we normally goto a country hotel but glad to say it was perfect, location was ideal for mooching round Colchester town. our room was comfortable with air-conditioning, the bar staff were friendly, we ate in the restuarant and the food was lovely.
We wanted to stay in Colchester so the location was great. We booked a disabled room as I'm disabled and it couldn't have been better, very clean, spacious, great wet room and comfortable bed. The staff and restaurant in The George Hotel were very pleasant. Will definitely book again.
The hotel is located in a beautiful area, whilst still being close to local amenities. Inside the room, it was very clean and was very pleased to see a bath. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be staying with you again on our next visit to Colchester Zoo.
Easy check-in across the road at The George Hotel. Great location with easy parking at the NCP a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Very spacious room, great sized TV, with a good bathroom with excellent shower. The bed was comfy and the room was very clean.
Very helpful staff. Helped to use the check in machine at the doors. As we were checking out early in the morning, they even cooked breakfast earlier than they supposed to. Breakfast was very delicious. Free parking for hotel guests.
The staff were very helpful, friendly, and polite, the food was cooked to a high standard, my room was comfortable and clean, I would definitely recommend the hotel, and would most certainly stay there again if I am in Colchester
The location of the place.
Loved the building too
and the beds and room, loved that we had out own door to the main road so we didn't have to walk to the reception as we were round the back of the hotel.
what a wonderful hotel! great location, very welcoming, had delicious food, the room clean and comfortable. the staff was exceptionally nice. lots to do in colchester. highly recommended.
