Stunning location. Very friendly hosts. Excellent food. Baby goats! We loved our time at the Kumano Winery Guest House.

The private house was right on the Kumano.
We stayed only one night but wish it was longer.
Shino is the perfect host! After eating breakfast at her cafe, we went to board the bus across the street. I completely forgot my bag. Shino made sure I got it back! She had the bus company flag down the bus we were on and delivered it to me.
Her homemade meals and warm accommodations will not be forgotten any time soon!!

Staff was able to provide information clearly and was fluent in English. He was also very kind to pick us up from the train station for free. He also provided suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. Highly recommend the accommodation due to the service and facilities.

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.
The host is really friendly and the cost is a good value and very reasonable. It’s about a 10 minute walk from Kii-Tanabe Station, so it’s pretty convenient. This accommodation is great for foreigners because the host is also foreign and speaks English! The rooms are clean and comfortable. The front door is always unlocked, so you can come and go as you please. There are also no check-out procedures, so you can just leave the property in the morning whenever you want easily. There’s also a kitchen that you have full use of.
This hotel is in new condition, is spotlessly clean, and the staff extremely welcoming and helpful. The full-bedroom was small, the queen room larger, but both were very comfortable. Breakfast was good but quite limited and one morning they ran out of much of the food by 8:15. Location is great, a 5 minute walk to the station and close to good restaurants and Izekayas (small restaurants with beer and sake). Shingu restaurant a 10 minute walk away was excellent and inexpensive.
Room is clean, no smell at all, walking distance from train station. Plenty of food options around the area.
It has fridge in the room! Perfect to store our rice ball from 7-11.
Owner is kindly allow us to store our luggage without cost for 4-5 days during our kumano kodo hike.
Lastly, we also impressed with the light in our room (not sure other room has same light), it allow adjustments of brightness and set to night/sleeping ambience mode.
We loved this Guest House in a rural area close to Tanabe with a beautiful view of sea. The hosts Giovanni and Yakata were both very warm and welcoming. Giovanni cooked a fabulous 5 course Italian style meal for dinner and a lovely breakfast next morning. Our room was spacious and comfortable and we enjoyed the interaction with the hosts and other guests. We ordered the pickup and drop off which worked very smoothly.
The place itself is the most gorgeous old building. It's an 85 year old guesthouse and is filled with vintage charm. Probably the best vibe for all places we have etayed in Japan. Super authentic old guesthouse charm. The owner is the sweetest Japanese lady who takes the time to chat with you. Location is awesome. Near train station and restaurants and 10 minute walk to the beach.
This is an excellent private room / guest house prior to starting your Kumano Kodo. Quick walk to and from the train station / tourist agency. Plenty of restaurants abound in the near area, but make reservations! Air conditioning worked like a charm in late July with high humidity. The 2nd story balcony / porch was great for hanging my clothes out to dry.
The host was so so nice! Offered to give me a lift from the train station, helped me plan my Kumano Kodo trip and then shipped my luggage to Osaka!! Can't thank you enough! When I asked for a cutting board to prepare sandwiches for my hike, he brought one over just for me!!!
The room is clean, spacious, comfortable bed and has towels which is nice!
The hostess was very nice and accommodating. It a shared bathroom and shower facilities. It was nice that there was microwave to warm up food should we need it. The location was very convenient since it was close to the JR train station. We had to catch a bus to Kii Takajiri for our Kumano Kodo hike the next morning. , a pleasant experience.
The accomodation is simple, but we like the japanese style room anyway. We got a lot of help to organise our hiking on the Kumano Kodo (the host was English speeking)! We could leave our luggage during the hike and got it brought directly to the train station when returning! Thanks alot for the pleasent stay and the help!
I felt very welcome, and the owner helped me a lot for my trip.
I loved the interior of the Guesthouse. Its design is in the details. Koji gave me a lot of information about day trips on Kumano Kodo, also about the good Izakaya in Kii Tanabe.
A place that comes with my highest recommendation!
Really nice coffee shop, perfect place for any people who wants to see how traditional Japanese house looks like.
The personal could also speak English, which is really convenient.
And the cakes for the breakfast were amazing.
I highly recommend if you want to stay in Kii tanabe.
My experience in this place was one of the best of my trip in Japan while doing the Kumano Kodo
The love and effort the staff put to serve their costumers here is just unreal
The onsen is fantastic
The food is like from Michelin star restaurant
And the views, oh the views
Check in and out was super easy. Very comfortable as we needed a place to stay as we walked the Kumano Kodo and it was difficult finding a place that was available so we were so grateful to have this option. Highly recommend for those wanting something simple and available.
Super nice place, I loved it. You can easily start the Kumano Kodo from there. The owner is a great guy. He offered to pick me up from Tanabe station and gave me a ride to a supermarket so I could get vegan food. Thanks again! 🙏
I would def stay there again.
It’s an old hotel so don’t expect anything modern but in typical Japanese fashion the service is impeccable and they give you a lot of food for free. Also every room is oceanfront. I went there because I was doing the Kumano Kodo trail which is close.
Very quiet with a simple Japanese atmosphere
Simon was extremely nice and efficient to sort out the start of the kumano kodo.
Came to the railway station to get me and dropped me off the start of the trek the next day.
Sweet and very helpful
The host, Hiroki san, picked us up at the Kii-Tanabe train station. We then had a great BBQ by the river. Excellent meals during our stay. Very comfortable apartment with great amenities. Amazing hosts. Highly recommended.
