This was a stellar spot from which to enjoy all the Oaxaca has to offer. Our room was very nice and with sufficient light. The courtyard was a daily stop, and the pool added greatly to our days -- with afternoon dips, lovely interaction with other families and poolside bites.

The concept and background of the hotel is fantastic. This is exemplified by the staff who are all great, really friendly and just a joy to be around. The location is just on the outside of the central area of Oaxaca so about 10-15min walk to the town centre which is very relaxing (but it was quite hot when we stayed and so it can be hard to avoid the sun in Oaxaca). The rooms were very clean, bright and comfortable with good ensuite bathrooms. The facilities are ok with plenty of pockets to relax and chill. This hotel does great things for the education of the children of Oaxaca so it was great to be a part of that as the city becomes a more popular destination for tourists.

A beautiful and lively city with excellent food. There is a strong sense of community in Oaxaca. There are people out on the street at night celebrating and socializing at all hours, something we do not get in Canada. I love visiting cities like this where the streets seem to belong to the people. There is a strong political undercurrent, with pro-palestine graffiti and proletarian political graffiti. If you are someone, like me, who believes that politics are important, this is a good place to visit.

Historic, colorful town with lots of fabulous restaurants (...
Historic, colorful town with lots of fabulous restaurants (I'm vegan and had no trouble finding many places that were entirely so with exciting menus using local ingredients and sauces). Our favorite was Hierba Dulce but also several other great ones, Herbivora, Veriditas Cocina Vegana). Street scene was always exciting with lots of art (get the graphics passport at one of the gallery/ workshops; get it stamped at each one to get a discount. It comes with a map). We saw several street parades with live bands and giant animated figures in celebration of weddings and graduations. Botanical garden was beautiful but the tour was tedious, with little useful information (but I'm a botanist and I would have preferred to walk around without 40 other people). Monte Alban is magnificent archeological site not far from town. It has excellent signage. Poke around on your own and take your camera. Beware of vendors selling "artifacts that they found in their corn field"-- surely fakes and it's illegal to take real artifacts out of the country.

City is beautiful but overrated.
City is beautiful but overrated. It depends on what else in south you have seen? We have been to other parts of Mexico, Peru, Colombia…Food quality and menus seem overhyped too. I often found myself chewing on corn…

We loved the authenticy of this city. Not a lot of tourists.
We loved the authenticy of this city. Not a lot of tourists. Learn some basic spanish and have google translate at the ready. the food and art is the best part of this city. Outstanding food and Mezcal. Great shopping for all pricepoints. Quality textiles. We came in early April and it was quite hot by mid day but if you walk on the shady side of the street and bring lots of water you will be OK. It cools down to be toterable in the early evening. Alway felt safe and the local people are friendly but not in your face trying to sell you trinkets. It is a relatively clean city and lots of people out and about. The Saturday night life was great. people were out having fun until almost 4 am! I would not recommend staying in the front room of any hotels as the road noise can be loud with lots of buses rubling down the narrow main streets.
Highly reccomend the baked goods at boulent blanc hotel bakery and lunch st LOS Danzantes.( get the mole sampler as an appetizer, you will be blown away by flavor, get extra plantain dumplings and its a meal!
Enjoy a wonderful week in this fabulous city.

Regardless of your interests, there is something here for everyone. We stayed a week and saw ruins, textile artisans, ate well, visited areas of interest and didn't even scratch the surface. Oh, and the food is fabulous.
A charming classic Mexican hotel with a great location. The beautiful rooftop terrace was a real bonus for enjoying our morning coffee or just sitting and relaxing after a long day of exploring Oaxaca. Felt very secure with a locked entry gate opened by the front of the house staff when you walked in. Same said staff who were some of the best we have come across, very warm and definitely helpful. A huge shout out to Doris the owner. She gave us numerous tips on where to eat and each and every one was a hit.
We had the very best stay and were so well looked after. The team are kind and helpful, there is always someone around if you need help with anything. We were blown away by our breakfast - it was absolutely delicious, coffee, juice, fruit and each day a different savoury plate (huevos rancheros, quesadilla, omlette with mole etc). The hotel is beautifully laid out with some social areas, and the location is great too. You definitely get a sense that they really care, thanks for having us :)
Everything! The property is absolutely stunning and the service is top tier. The renovation of the convent is flawless and has an atmosphere that is breathtaking. For any travelers who have an appreciation for historical buildings, this hotel is a must. The staff was extremely accomodating and attentive, helping us make the most of our stay in Oaxaca City. I have traveled all over the world and for the price, this is probably one of the best hotel experiences I have had.
The best part of this hotel is the location. It is central to downtown and a short 3-5 minute walk to Zocalo. A lot of the most popular attractions are located within the area and a maximum of a 15-20 minute walk. The hotel also smells amazing and we looked forward to that smell when we came back each day. The main area was beautiful. When we did eat at the hotel (mostly breakfast) it was delicious and presented well. Kitchen staff is top-notch.
Boulenc has a beautiful and relaxing aesthetic, delicious breakfast and snacks, and a wonderful rooftop terrace but it’s their staff who really made our stay exceptional. They went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable at the hotel and to help us navigate the city. The hotel also has a bakery/restaurant and a market right next door, which we loved. Highly recommend Boulenc for your stay in Oaxaca City!
Totally gorgeous hotel right in the middle of Oaxaca city. The view from the rooftop was stunning and completely memorable, and the courtyard was really beautiful and peaceful. Our bedroom was lovely with a huge bed and luxurious bathroom. The staff were wonderfully kind and helpful. The breakfast was equally great with a variety of teas, coffee and delicious local delicacies on offer. Highly recommend.
This hotel is perfectly situated in the city center on a quiet street. Our room (king with terrace) was spacious with a big two sink bathroom. The breakfasts are delicious and prompt at a community table, and there is an inner courtyard if you just want to relax. This hotel had some of the best art selection I've seen in all my stays in Oaxaca! Will most certainly be back.
A delightful surprise, the hotel is almost a boutique hotel as it only has 20 rooms. Lovely staff and good breakfast, the design of the hotel is really attractive, and the position is perfect. We had a room facing what is a very lively street and the double glazed balcony doors were great, we didnt hear any noise and slept well. A pool on the roof.
I loved my stay here. Everyone is so warm, friendly and welcoming. Very accommodating. Rooms were super clean. The breakfast was delicious. One of our friends was at another hotel and she'd come hang out with us and they fed her also, ha! They're just the best. Will definitely be my new spot to stay when I come to Oaxaca.
Best hotel I stayed at during this 3 week trip to Mexico. Beds are really comfy, room is clean, great shower. Staff was amazing and the owner is a cool guy. The food is delicious and affordable. Have traveled all over the world for vacation and work and this hotel is one of my favorites I’ve stayed in
we liked and enjoyed everything at the hotel. the architecture and its history is fantastic. the rooms are big and the bed linings smell so good :) they have even the softest toilet paper ever. overall, one the best hotel experience I've ever had.
loved this hotel - room was lovely and comfortable (but air con was noisy) and the staff were so nice. restaurant is a hidden gem in the city - mole the best we had!!!! recommend this place and will be back x
We loved everything about this beautiful boutique hotel. Gorgeous rooms, amazing service, beautifully designed and a wonderful rooftop bar and adjoining cafe. The location was perfect too.
We had fabulous time in the hotel, this is truly boutique hotel. Breakfast was delicious. Enrique was the most helpful guy you can meet. The rooms are very stylish and staff so warm.
An overall amazing experience in this chic boutique hotel. From the food, the interior and the nice people working there, this was a very unique gem in beautiful Oaxaca.
