The whole place is run down and shabby.
The whole place is run down and shabby. The draperies had holes, the phone was dirty, and the TV controls were sticky. I was afraid of bedbugs but the linens were clean. There were homeless right outside our window playing rap music on loudspeakers. Very sketchy people staying at the hotel. The shuttle drivers were nice, but the desk guy wasn't friendly. It was a very depressing place. Definitely not worth the money. Ramada should be ashamed.

We just had one day to sightsee.
We just had one day to sightsee. We did the city trolley tour in the morning, hosted by a local with excellent knowledge of the city and Alaska generally; it is worth going on the longer trolley tour so you can get off the bus for photos etc.
In the afternoon an out of town tour by “escape anchorage.com” was also excellent and made a good contrast to the city tour, and was good value at $129.
If we had had longer we would have hired bikes to cycle the coastal trail, visited the museum and done a longer trip to one of the national parks.
Restaurants were good - we went to Ginger and 49th State Brewing (both bar / restaurants) and would recommend both. There is plenty to do - but do check the weather, and also Alaska’s 35 different species of mosquitoes (we didn’t see any in mid May)!

We did not have an opportunity to view much of Anchorage as we were headed to Wasilla to visit family. We did eat at the Arctic Roadrunner in Anchorage, which is a very popular burger restaurant; the burgers were great! We stayed at the Hyatt in Anchorage, which is only 8 minutes from the airport. We'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be close to the airport and have a great hotel/restaurant to visit. Directions to the airport were fairly straight forward; there was very little traffic mid-morning Sunday.

I came specifically for the Alaska Winter Train Ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks. It was a breathtaking beautiful ride! I am planning future trips back to Alaska to take more train tours.
The hotel shuttle driver and another hotel guest recommended the seafood chowder at Forty Ninth State Brewing in downtown Anchorage. The driver offered to take me. I ordered the Alaskan seafood chowder with a lager loaf, a garden salad and their "award winning" smoked wings. Bingo! The seafood chowder was delicious with chunks of seafood in a very flavorful creamy broth! It was very good and the lager loaf was scrumptious. Together they made a great combo!
I can see why the "award winning" smoked wings got an award...they were delicious, even cold, the next day!
Customer service here was top shelf. Kristaleigh took my order and made the recommendations for the wings and lager loaf. She was delightful and professional! Overall, it was a very warm environment and pleasant interaction.
Hats off to the chef/cook at the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel restaurant. I spent one night here and ordered take out. I ordered two salmon tacos (scrumptious and very tasty) and steamed veggies which were flavorful and steamed just right! The bartender who took my order was very helpful and professional. Great customer service!

Alaska is so beautiful but Anchorage doesn't show that at all. The city is so gloomy and is not properly taking care of its people. We did find a few good bars and pubs, but walking around on the street just made us sad. Recommend only staying in Anchorage for activities outside of the city (visit Whittier or go hiking in Chugach State Park!) or to pass through on your next adventure to Denali, Fairbanks, Kenai etc. One activity worth doing in Anchorage is the coastal trail, by bike or by foot, you'll definitely spot an eagle or a moose!
All accommodation in Anchorage is overpriced if you ask me, but this hotel is very good and nice if we are comparing it with other hotels and prices. Staff on reception was not too friendly or helpful, but other than that, everything was great. Very clean. Free parking. Free shuttle to airport. Room was huge, quiet, clean, with little kitchen, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, little stove. Bathroom clean and nice. It had everything that you might need and more, for short or long stays. Like little appartment. I would recommend it.
Location is great. There is an excellent bakery/coffee shop just a block away. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was not large, but the shower/toilet were very nice. The staff was over-the-top wonderful. They checked in on us, got us a fabulous space heater when we were feeling a bit cold, and answered questions about transportation options to the train station. This is not a fancy hotel, but it shone in all the important ways, and was way cheaper than the fancier places in town. We would definitely stay here again.
The Westmark is very well located in downtown Anchorage, and most of the downtown area is easily walkable from the property. Service was excellent, Jannelle at the front desk was able to get us checked in early after our flight arrived super early and was a comforting presence throughout our stay. I wish every hotel I stayed at had someone like Jannelle at the front desk -- but everyone on the staff we encountered was helpful. Also, value for money is extremely good. Parking was convenient.
Breakfast was nice, room was very clean and the room bathroom was great, with a large counter top. The room was quiet and so cozy, and spacious with a couch, fridge, iron, and microwave. The FREE hotel shuttle to and from the airport was also soooooooo great and convenient! Downtown Anchorage for shopping, dining, and exploring was only a short Lyft or Uber drive away from the hotel too. Very convenient location near airport and downtown. I will stay here again and highly recommend!!
Standard room, good bed, fridge in the room (it made quite a bit of noise when it switched on at night)|. The shared bathroom was clean. There was a kitchen which the guests could use (I didn't). I liked the neighborhood. Easy access with code. The location was further away from downtown Anchorage but the bus (line 20) wasn't too far away so for me that was ok. Large supermarket not too far away, not a lot of restaurants though.
The location was good; there was a bus stop for going downtown or anywhere in Anchorage. The People Mover bus system in Anchorage works very well. Breakfast was typical Holiday Inn Express...good. They have a 24 hour shuttle which ran very promptly and efficiently. Overall, the hotel was a little expensive but everything is expensive in Anchorage. Still, a great stay and would recommend.
Pam’s property is just amazing in every aspect.
Rooms are big, comfortable, and extremely clean.
Location location location! Walking distance to the railroad and downtown Anchorage (49th brewery is just up the hill from the hotel).
Pam is the best host I ever encountered in a trip. She is welcoming, thoughtful, and all around a wonderful person.
Kitchen was fantastic, and the rooms were perfect for my needs as backpacking camper. Could leave bags before/after check in, and plenty of good advice from Max on local area and Alaska in general. If you are touring about Alaska with tent + car this is a great base to use in Anchorage, and the most affordable spot around.
Clean, nice room and hotel. They are doing well with the upgrades. We ate at the hotel for dinner and the complimentary breakfast. Both were very good. Liked the shuttle to and from the airpor. The location was great, also right on bus line 40 that takes you to downtown and to the airport as well I believe.
Room was very spacious with a small sitting/work area, kitchnette, refidgerator.
Very comfortable bed/mattress and pillows. Nice view of the park behind the hotel.
Good TV and wifi service.
Fairly conveniently located to downtown (walking distance).
Good breakfast (hot and continental) with friendly service.
Very helpful with shuttle from airport and downtown. But it was really only a 25 minute walk. Older hotel but many tourist use it. Not a dodgey place. Super comfortable bed.
Compared to most of Anchorage hotel prices this place was half the price and much better than I thought it would be.
The hotel was very nice. Very clean and staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good. I had a room that overlooked the river. I enjoyed watching people salmon fishing. Great location was about a ten minute walk to downtown. I would stay here again if I make it back to Anchorage.
Very comfortable, clean and still looks like a brand new hotel.
Free pick up at the airport works 24 hours wich was very useful.
Great breakfast.
Very friendly and welcoming staff and a special thank you to Lele for being so helpful.
Highly recommended and will definitely come back
The owner was very welcoming and checkin was a breeze. The studio was warm and suffient for two nights. We loved the easy access to the Anchorage Railway, only a 5 min walk downhill and a 5 min walk into Downtown for many resturants to choose from
Convenient free airport shuttle that arrived in timely manner and the driver was super nice! The location close to the airport. Public transit (buses) available nearby (much more so than in other places in Anchorage besides downtown).
Nice hotel in a good location in Anchorage downtown, beside the famous city museum.
Big room, comfortable bed, and large bathroom. The gym is big and very well-equipped.
Complementary coffee is always in the lobby.
A few quirks but overall reasonably quiet, clean, and comfortable. I walked every day to downtown (about a mile) in the Captain Cook hotel area. Good kitchen facilities. Parking was easy.
This hotel is in a very good location in downtown Anchorage but it is long overdue for an overall updating. Just a little shabby. Staff was excellent and helpful. Good breakfast.
