The property is a calm oasis, with a gorgeous garden and beautiful art pieces from around the world on every floor. The furnishings are very tasteful and enhance the Georgian design. Our breakfasts were a highlight,and some of the best we’ve had. Rowena is a masterful cook and baker (her sourdough homemade bread is addictive). Her husband Tom gave us great suggestions on where to go and eat. We wished we had more time to try everything on his list!

Ashcroft Farmhouse está en East Calder, a 16 km de Estadio Murrayfield y a 16 km de Zoo de Edimburgo. Super friendly landlady. Nice room, comfortable bed, good shower, excellent breakfast, private parking. We wanted to stay the night somewhere out of the hussle & bustle of Edinburgh and this was the perfect location. We asked for advice on somewhere to eat in the evening and she suggested "The Grapes Village Pub" nearby in East Calder. It was cosy, had friendly staff, and the best pub meal we've had for a longtime.

Lorna was an amazing host. In general, accommodation around Edinburgh is quite expensive so we found this place which was relatively affordable compared to other places and had a high rating. It is a house-turned-b&b, has 3 small rooms and a nice small dining room. Everything was super clean and Lorna was the friendliest host we have ever met. She gives you a small form to fill every night to get your breakfast preferences and time to eat. Her cooking is lovely. Definitely recommend her full Scottish breakfast with Haggis. She cooked the best haggis out of the 3 restaurants we tried. The only downside was that the place is quite far from the city (45 min bus ride - take X27) and there is only one bus that goes there but if you catch it and don't mind the travel time, it is definitely worth a stay.

El Glenarch House está situado en Dalkeith, a 1,1 km del Butterfly & Insect World, y cuenta con jardín y terraza. El alojamiento se encuentra a 2,1 km del Dalkeith Country Park. We received the studio room which was really lovely. Very comfy bed, a well equipped kitchenette, a very large and well appointed bathroom and a private entrance from the garden. Parking was excellently located and just a few steps from the room. The grounds are very pleasant although fairly limited as to how far you can go along the river. When we arrived (a bit earlier than planned) we got the room pretty quickly and were shown around. Due to the Covid situation no breakfast is served but we had a well organized kitchenette with a coffee machine (with capsules) and fresh milk in the fridge. A large Morrison's just a short drive away, so organizing meals in the room wasn't an issue. Location ideal for driving into the city and the train station is close by if you want to avoid the traffic and parking problems in town. Highly recommend visiting the Dalkeith Country park close by for beautiful walks!
