Situated in Fortuna, 15 km from La Fortuna Waterfall, Bungalows Las Iguanas Arenal Volcano features accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a terrace. In this small family operation, Jose’s service was impeccable. He reached out in advance and removed down/feather pillows as I’m allergic. Six stars, Jose, for preheating the outdoor jacuzzi in advance of our arrival. Bungalow is the right word: small, adequate, hybrid indoor and outdoor. Jacuzzi on the side; rainforest in the back. Breakfast was more than adequate, and we enjoyed a tasty dinner at the Ross restaurant in nearby Chachagua. Sadly, we missed an early morning sighting of the area sloth crawling across the power line above. That’s for next time.

Property owners were so friendly and helpful. Wished we could have stayed longer here!

Located in Fortuna and with La Fortuna Waterfall reachable within 10 km, Amor Arenal Adults Friendly provides concierge services, non-smoking rooms, a garden, free WiFi and a bar. We loved everything about this hotel. The rooms are superb, spacious, comfortable and quiet (apart from the wildlife, ear plugs provided!). A complimentary stock of the bar was welcomed! I would highly recommend the yoga lessons and the use of the spa and the pool bar. The staff are fabulous!

Alajuela is a typical Costa Rican city
The city is like most cities in Costa Rica: not so well organized, full of life, colors, noice. There is not so much to see, except for the Zoo (Zoo Ave). It is a bit out of town but very good indeed! It is built into the forest, has lots of interesting animals in it. It is quite hard to find restaurants in Alajuela. You can easily find fast food but if you want something else, you need to use a bit time to find a place.

If you have to sleep after or later your flight to San Juan Airport, DON'T GO SAN JOSE (ugly place) -> go to Alajuela!
