Wonderful and charming hotel with a great garden and spectacular view on Lake Windermere

The food in general is really good and of high quality, but overall not matching the great house and hotel level. Both dining and afternoon tea are absolutely ok, but not more than that and most hotels on that level do (and should) have a better cuisine. The afternoon tea "tarteletts" were completely out of a "creamy" substance like a sweet pudding without any dough. Fancy idea and quite tasty, but also boring after two of them, no variation and moreover quite heavy, definitvely one of the not so good afternoon teas we ever had. If you are staying for longer than 3 days you have to decide for dining outside, because the limited menu is forcing you. There are 4 standard AC charging spots for an EV, which are run via an EON website and not by the hotel. If you are not an EON customer with a respective card, you do need internet access, which is tricky for Vodafone and O2 customers at that spot due to limited bandwidth. No one in the hotel can help you (we asked !) and we were not the only ones struggling. Some gave up. Finally with commuting between the hotel wifi (doesn't reach to the charging spots) and the charger we managed to charge, but it was quite some hassle. You don't want that during your holiday. The street behind the hotel is quite busy and is creating noise, but in the lakeside rooms you almost don't hear it. Different to the main house.

Wonderful hotel, with a lot of charm and freshly renovated. The rooms in the Lake House are extraordinary with a spectacular view to the beautiful garden, the lake and including the romantic opposite lakeside. The beds are very comfy and we have hardly ever seen cleanier (bath) rooms before - spot on. All is very luxurious and outstanding. The main house is breathing a great history and the dining rooms with huge windows are opening a phantastic view onto the gardens and the lake. The staff is very friendly and most of the times very attentive. The breakfast is good. It was a phantastic stay with a very relaxing and luxurious atmosphere.

Property lovely. Dinner disappointing - a most pretentious over the top slowly produced meal. Tasteless tartare, tiny over “fussed about” duck starter. Vegetables came after we had finished the food !!! Hopeless self indulgence by the chef. Staff polite and helpful and apologetic.

Beautiful position. Excellent quality hotel. Well appointed and architecture and decoration and execution excellent.

Contemporary meets country in this grade two listed building. Upon entering the hall you are greeted with a galleried landing overlooked by a Victorian stained glass roof panel. Rooms are spacious and our standard room had the benefit of balcony overlooking the terrace and lake, our bathroom had the benefit of a walk-in shower. Service is first class and food is delicious.

It was perfect. The restaurant a little pricey, but certainly fancy.

The architecture and the surroundings were sensational. We got a glass of champagne upon arrival and sat next to the fire amongst the ornate carved wooden reception room. It was so beautiful. It was so nice to stay in an boutique hotel which was so accommodating towards our Labrador Disco. In the bedroom they even left personalised dog biscuits with her name on!

There were times were due to the presumptuousness of other guests we were made to feel ignored and 'less than' other guests by staff - being made to wait for an unexplained amount of time to check out or when another guest was addressed before us even though my husband and I were waiting for longer. I also felt the check-in process was a bit confusing and unexplained. There were many guests arriving around 3PM as indicated for check-in however the entrance did not accommodate for this many people - leaving the area very crowded and then without explanation being ushered into another room to wait as our room was not yet ready. I feel this process could be improved, however the complementary drinks were an lovely unexpected welcome!

It was evident that some staff really enjoy their job - as they were very friendly, yet professional and accommodating. The room was beyond beautiful and comfortable and it was nice to have the amenities of a smart TV. The room had a lovely balcony and a very nice view of the gardens and lake. The evening meal and breakfast were beyond delicious - absolutely excellent. And although it was very cold, getting a dip in the lake was definitely memorable.

Our room was lovely, but didn’t have a lake view. We found the road noise to be quite noisy during the night and in the morning.

The hotel is in an absolutely beautiful location on Lake Windermere. It has lovely gardens that go down to the water’s edge. You need a car to travel to local towns. Breakfast was excellent with wonderful service from the hotel staff. We didn’t eat in the main dining room but we enjoyed a couple of dinners in the lounge.
