I loved the location: a bit away from main touristy things but plenty of great restaurants and shops around. Rooms were spacious and clean!

Breakfast is great but is traditional Japanese bento box. No buffet. For a long stay may crave more variety. But for 2-3 days is really a great experience if you are into the local food

Great place with a traditional vibe. Rooms are quite spacious in terms of Japanese standards, well equipped with all amenities. Hotel is well strategically located. Spa is provided complementary for the hotel guests in gives a bit of onsen feeling.

There was a small area with some food you could buy at the hotel, but nothing vegetarian. Some inari sushi or egg sandwich would have been great. But this was not a big issue as there was a 7/11 a few minutes down the road.

This hotel was stunning. The front of the hotel is a historical building that has been maintained beautifully. The back of the hotel where the rooms are is a more modern building that has been added on, but everything is in a similar design style. There's an open courtyard in the middle of the building that made it so refreshing and cool every time we left our room. The rooms are huge and well designed. Both aesthetically lovely and practical with a big area and shelf for luggage and drawers / hangers to place your clothes. (This is something that was lacking in other hotels we stayed in during our Japan trip). The shower was amazing - waterfall shower with great water pressure, as well as a body shower. The addition of a smart TV with Netflix and Prime was nice too. There was a spa on site that allows tattoos and you could check how many people were in there on your TV. I had a couple of times I went in there and got to chill out in the public bath all by myself - which was very relaxing. The staff were very friendly and helped us with shipping our luggage and calling restaurants for reservations. They spoke good Engligh. The location was great too. Walking distance to Nishiki market, some great bars and restaurants, and shopping areas.

apart from its obvious charms (it’s history, spa and facilities), I was greeted so warmly and looked after as a solo female traveller. The manager of the hotel made extra accommodation to ensure that I get to my train on time, and luckily there are regular public buses very close to the hotel (one bus stop right by the hotel). the hotel was beautiful it’s surroundings incredible, and I got to try a traditional Japanese breakfast that made me feel so happy and special. definitely stay here!

We loved our stay here. Close to everything but being able to use the onsen even though we have tattoos was definitely the highlight for us. I did a lot of research on where we could stay because of this and was so pleased and very happy with Candeo. Would absolutely stay here again!

The combination of traditional decor in the shared spaces and modern quality accommodation worked very well. Our room was quite small but efficiently laid out and designed, plus the clear and simple signage for housekeeping needs worked well.

We didn't require breakfast but it seemed popular with other guests.

Probably the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. This place definitely raised my standards. The spa facilities are wonderful, the staff helpful and ready to help with any questions or concerns. If you visit Kyoto - this is the way. You get to see the traditional japanese style with a comfortable modern twist. Lovely, just lovely.

Amazing location. Walking distance to the Nishiki Market. Loved the ryokan style hotel. Onsen was well maintained and was a great experience. Accommodated our 3 month old baby with a bath chair for me to help bathe our baby. Unfortunately our room was not big enough to accommodate a baby cot but we managed with co-sleeping.

Didn’t have breakfast here because we are in Japan and matcha soufflé pancakes are amazing lol

This is our second Kyoto visit and wow Candeo was beautiful. Had an old school feel with a modern twist. We paid extra to check in early and they were so wonderful, especially Kim at front desk. Her English was impeccable and her attitude was so positive and happy. I hope to stay here again some day. Square footage wise our room eas bigger than usual. Albeit was an executive room. The beds were super comfy as was the space. The air con was AWESOME. 👏🏼 when we got to the room there was the cutest honeymoon well wishes on the TV screen and on a note. Unfortunately we didn’t have the time to use the onsen but tons of guests did! This was an amazing hotel stay- thank you Kim and team!!!!

The rooms were on the small side. It is a bit of a walk towards the bus stop, and since it is in a side alley, the hotel may be difficult to find.

The location of the hotel was very nice, and the hotel being as part of a machiya with the library and the cafe was also very nice. The breakfast sets were hearty, and the bathhouse was also very relaxing and generously sized.
