Right on the doorsteps of Zenkoji. The morning service was excellent, although a bit too early for me... This is my first time in a Shukubo, certainly interested in trying again.

Simply the best accomodation I have experienced anywhere! Our stay with Maki, her Mother and Kenta dog was relaxing and magical after a week in Tokyo and Maki does absolutley everything to make you feel welcome and at home with her gentle, warm hospitality, The Ryokan itself is an elegant traditional building and is beautifully kept. The amazing Kaiseki dinner and breakfasts that Makis mother presents every night are a wonderful way to experience traditional japanese food after a relaxing onsen bath. Maki was simply the best host, she even drove us up to the start of our walk trail and booked our lunchtime soba restaurant. The local area is breathtaking even in late autumn / early winter and a walk around the shrines is enough to fill a very pleasant day, Wel ove you Maki and we will be back!

Featuring 2-star accommodation, Azuma no Yu is located in Nagano, 1.9 km from Nagano Station and 12 km from Suzaka City Zoo. The air-conditioned accommodation is 2.1 km from Zenkoji Temple, and guests can benefit from private parking available on site and free WiFi. The ryokan provides a sauna and a lift.

There are a total of seven of us traveling by car in the Nagano and Nagaoka areas, and this is the only hotel that can accommodate 7 people. The host is very friendly and tried to communicate with us in slow Japanese and simple English. The room is big and clean, the air-conditioning facilities and bedding are also very comfortable. But be aware that there is only shared washrooms, and because of the covid, the onsen closes before 7:30, which means it will be difficult for you to take a shower after 7:30 (2022/08/05).

I liked everything about this hotel. A proper ryokan right by the temple (which allowed us to jump from bed to attend the early morning prayers; a fantastic experience). Clean and comfortable facilities, calm and welcoming environment, an excellent on-site onsen, and a most delicious dinner and breakfast! A home from home feeling all around and a wonderful sense of going back in time at this amazing city! We loved it all and wish we had stayed longer. I highly, highly recommend!

A small but comfortable ryokan sitting on an ancient site on a beautiful pedestrian thoroughfare just fifty yards form the large Zenko-Ji Temple complex, easily accessible from the rail station by either bus or subway. Rooms compact but brilliantly designed - no shoes throughout with every necessary comfort and a really good traditional breakfast. Use the small but well-equipped onsen. Good eateries located nearby but do book.

It is a ryokan, Japanese style hotel, just in the street a few hundred meters away from the Zenko-ji (temple). The house is very old. The room looks beautyful, beds, (futons), Japanese chairs and table. The breakfasts and dinners were traditional Japanese. Lovely taste and made with care. There was an onsen, Japanes hot spring bath in the house. The staff was so friendly. They came up to our room to collect us for the meals. We have breakfast and dinner in a original Japanese (dining)room.

Great Ryokan experience (my first time), right in the historic temple walk. Even though several rooms were being remodelled, my room was in perfect condition and comfortable. Good onsen. I enjoyed trying on the yukata, but be aware even Japanese visitors don't always put it on! I was a little embarrassed at breakfast :D
