My husband and I spent a night here to experience Japanese onsen for the first time and see snow monkeys in the area. We went with a traditional Japanese style room option and had no regrets. The room was fantastic. Saying spacious would be an understatement. Very large living area, separate sit down area and balcony with beautiful view. The large entryway, washroom, separate shower with bath and separate powder room. The room has AC and we were very warm despite the snowstorm outside. We had the means to make tea in the room with a beautiful tea set and there was a coffee bar downstairs. The room also had a TV. For both meals we went with the Japanese options and the staff was very helpful and accommodating to help us and explain every dish. There was even a small guide included with each meal outlining what is being served for each course. The facilities were outstanding as well. We opted for a private onsen and it was simply magical with the snow outside. There is a swimming pool as well that my husband used. If you forgot your swimwear you could get one there for a small fee. There is a small gift shop downstairs (they accept the cards as a payment option) with local sweets and small souvenirs. The fact that you got collected from the train station with a minibus and dropped off after your stay was extremely convenient as well and we didn't need to take the local bus. We were very close to the snow monkey park. We had a fantastic stay and we couldn't ask for a better experience.

The outdoor onsen was very good, and you could book a private slot which is especially great if you are shy! The staff were very patient and kind, and they look after you very well. I highly recommend booking a dinner, and the breakfast is also very good. Being close to the station was also particularly helpful when starting my day, especially as it was a pickup point for my snow monkey tour.

A wonderful stay. Chose this hotel due to having transportation between Yudanaka train station and the Snow Monkey Park. Very handy indeed! There are two public onsen within the facility (gender separated) and two private onsen (indoor, free and outdoor, 2000yen per 30 mins, or free with select rooms) in addition to the 9x onsen in town. In-room drinks provided (free) and replenished daily with local snacks provided in-room and changed daily also. A nice touch! Tip - choose a consecutive night stay (2 nights) and you’ll have the town onsen to yourself until 3pm when the guests start to check into their hotels. Most only stay 1 night so the town onsen can get quite busy from 3pm. We chose the “no meals” options in our booking and were spoiled for choice within Shibu Onsen (places open from 5.30-6pm), no reservations necessary which isn’t the case for most other towns in Japan!

It looked great, very japanese style. They provided yukatas to use in the hotel and at town. We had access to the onsen in the hotel, which was beautiful and really confortable, and also acces to the onsens around the town. The staff was great, very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing.

The bonus is the key to the public onsens, all 9 of them.

The onsens were beautiful and entirely peaceful. Both the guest rooms and the dining rooms were beautiful tatami rooms that when paired with the yukatas really made you feel the atmosphere at its most. The shuttle bus service to the snow monkey park and train station was also incredibly helpful!

We had a room at the front with an indoor balcony that overlooked the street. Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, which was great. Staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English. It was a very nice experience to stay in traditional japanese ryokan, room was like from another era, had a tea set and futons, but there were also ac, humidifier and fridge. We used an onsen, had yukatas, it was all very comfortable

The room has a traditional ryokan look with tatami floors and futon, the bathroom has a nice little bathub. The onsen is nice and clean. The staff, even though they couldn't speak english, made the effort to communicate with translator, and were very friendly and helpful, and in the end even gave me a lovely gift.

Really enjoyed the traditional rooms (sleeping on futons) and the relaxed atmosphere in the ryokan. And not to forget: access to the 9 onsen baths as a guest of the ryokan. Try them all, walking towards them in traditional Japanese yukata and gets. Enjoyed every second of being here!
