This 2-star ryokan offers a shared lounge. The ryokan features family rooms. The property is a historic building in an interesting residential area located near the Hikone Castle and old town district. Our host was incredibly friendly and welcoming host. It felt very special to stay here in our cozy Japanese style room.

Guests can choose to stay in rooms with Western-style beds or in rooms with Japanese futon bedding and tatami (woven-straw) floors. Guests can watch international programmes on a flat-screen TV (BBC World, Phoenix InfoNews Channel, TVBS and YTN). The en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer and slippers. Firstly getting picked up by the hotels bus/van at the train station was EXTREMELY Convenient. They loaded all our bags and even loaded them in carts at the hotel to bring to the front desk. Check in was quick and they brought the bags to our room and showed us what the room had to offer. My Wife and I had the Deluxe Japanese Style Room with the balcony that had a private Onsen tub outside the room. The place was beautiful with the room clean and very spacious! The Balcony has a beautiful view of the Lake and the Onsen Hot tub was hot and relaxing! They had a variety of Yukata to wear and free drinks on the first floor. We went outside on the first floor veranda to enjoy the night air. We saw some kittens playing on the premises which was a great bonus! Then we had our special Kaiseki dinner, which was great! Course after course went by and the food was great, especially the local Omi Beef! Then we went exploring the area and checked out the "library" where we just relaxed and had complementary snacks and drinks. Then the foot pool and the public Onsen on premises. We got a couples massage after and went back to the room to relax and soak in the private Onsen again. The next morning we had a buffet breakfast with all the normal fare, but also some unique Japanese choices such as fish to grill on the grill, curry rice, and Onsen Tamago(Egg). Checking out was easy and the ride back via bus from the hotel was much appreciated!

The Japanese-style rooms at Ryokan Tobaya feature futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor. Facilities for making green tea are included, and bathrooms and toilets are shared. Rooms have a traditional decor with shoji paper screens and floor cushions. Very traditional feel, hosts gave a lot of space but were readily available when required. Hikone is a lovely area to cycle. I cycled to the next town Taga with the free bicycle (believe you may need to book early if it's peak season) and stopped at Patisserie violet. The hamburg restaurant nearby was superb. For omi beef Ikkyu (mid range price) was delicious. Breakfast is recommended!

Located in Hikone, Kiyotaki Ryokan offers Japanese-style accommodations, Japanese home-style cooking and free Wi-Fi, a 20-minute walk from national treasure Hikone Castle. It’s a 12-minute drive from the Sawayama Castle remains. Drinks vending machines are on-site, and free parking is available upon reservation. The Ryokan is located pretty close to everything, Hikone Castle and Hikone station can be reached by foot in about 10-20 minutes, restaurant, convenience stores, etc. are also pretty close. The family running the Ryokan was very very friendly and accommodating to me. Everything has been explained to me, but I also speak Japanese so mileage may vary. The bath was very nice and Japanese style. Everything I needed like Toothbrushes, shampoo was available. I liked the room, it was a Japanese style tatami room with a comfortable Futon bed.
