Fès is a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and sensations, and its intricate urban design is an allegory of its own identity. Live up to the pace of this ancient Babel, and go the whole hog immerging yourself into its 1001 Nights atmosphere. Check out the Booking.com hotel deals in fascinating Fès and enjoy!
Commonly spelled Fez, this city was Morocco’s capital during Middle Ages. The city was originally composed of two separate settlements located along the banks of the Jawhar River. Madinat Fas was founded in 789 by Idris I, while Al-'Aliya was founded by his son Idris II. Both towns grew autonomously until the Almoravids unified them in 1070 under the name ‘Fas’. The city is still considered a beacon of the Islamic civilisation, due to its ancient ‘madrasas’ Islamic colleges.
The Old Town or ‘medina’ has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, representing one of the best preserved historic centres in the world. The famous ‘riads’ or small traditional hotels are located in the medina, which is also called Fes Al-Bali.
The city can be reached through Fès Saïss Airport, or from the airports in Casablanca and Rabat via railway or bus connection. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Fez New Town or a historic ‘riad’ in the medina, don’t miss Booking.com’s wide offering!
I travel frequently. Fez, and Morocco in general, is underwhelming. While several day trips are possible, the main attraction in Fez is the Medina. It is interesting to walk through it but after a few hours I had enough. You cannot enter most attractions (Mosques, University) so you're left wandering the Medina. The shops are diverse in terms of merchandise but they are overly aggressive and often rude.

I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased.
I lived in Fes for five years, so I will be biased. I love this city and it has a special place in my heart. I learned Arabic here over 20 years ago, I came back some years later and worked as an English teacher and Arabic to English translator, and my recent visit was a visit for the peace of my soul.
If you are going to visit with a family, I would recommend an apartment in the new city (la Ville Nouvelle), especially the two that I stayed in. The old city (the Medina) is not easy to navigate with a stroller and the facilities in the riyads there are not family friendly (unless you are willing to pay top dollar), to say the least. Staying in the Medina means roughing it, so if you're young and single, or a young couple with no children, maybe you can hack it.
For food, I highly recommend Jawhara Cafe next to the American Language Centre (Rue Ahmed Hiba) for breakfast (great harsha, malawi, coffee, tea etc.) and Restaurant Florence on Rue Hassan II for lunch or dinner; they make amazing couscous, tagine, and every great Moroccan dish at great prices.

What an amazing city - filled all the senses .. such warm hospitality, amazing food and history abounds - the artisans and craftsmanship of the local people was astounding - I loved every minute during my stay from the getting lost in the Medina's alley's to exploring the historic city - My tour guide Hassan was magnificent - so spoiled by all his knowledge and ability to read his customers.... We so enjoyed all his recommendations and more importantly - all the knowledge he shared with us - Please make sure you allocate enough time in this beautiful city and enjoy the hidden Roads and their restaurants! The food and spices are simply amazing!

Fez is good just for a day and it’s good to go to chefchouien from there for a day trip. Be careful of the people who take you to the tanneries and local outlets where they overcharge for stuff. The Medina has lots of shops having cheaper stuff of similar quality so better to check in different places before buying. Food is very good everywhere. Taxis are cheap. Place is very safe.

just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time.
just dont. Morocco has a lot more good cities to spent time. If you really want to see then 1 day would be plenty but for me even this duration might be too long. In this city you always need to be on your toes or else you are an easy target for people who wants to just squeze money out of you
The riad is traditional and incredibly well kept. Everything makes sense, from the copper fixtures in the bathrooms to the carved wooden beams all around the building structure. The best part was definitely Mr. Hadou, who received us almost like family, he and his wife had the best meals I had in Morocco made for us.
The location of the riad is perfect, near the blue gate and on the Main Street of Fez.
For rooms, in summer on should choose the ground floor rooms because they are the fresher.
Breakfast was always great.
The staff at the riad was wonderful - very friendly and helpful, always available. Nice breakfast every morning, we also had dinner there one night and it was the best meal we had in Fes - highly recommend the tagine chicken with lemon. The riad’s location is nice - on the edge of the Medina so you get the authentic experience but close to where the airport taxi can pick up and drop off. Beautiful old building that has been updated but not so much that it is contemporary in style - still very traditional.
We loved everything. The Riad is sublime, stylish, and the location is the best, very easy to locate - which is important in the old medina of Fes. The staff is very professional, and this adds to the feeling of being in an elegant 5 stars hotel. We loved drinking tea in the riad’s patio. Thanks a lot to all the staff and to the manager of the riad, we had a lovely holiday and we’ll be back for sure, inshallah!
We’ve visited many Riads in Fes and this was the most beautiful. I fully recommend it!
The staff at Palais De Fès were the epitome of hospitality. They were not only friendly but also extremely accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and memorable. Their attention to detail and eagerness to assist with any requests, whether it was about room amenities or local recommendations, truly made a difference.
The atmosphere of the hotel is one of elegance and tranquility, a welcome contrast to the lively energy of the Medina.
Fabulous hotel! We were on a road trip around Morocco and this was one of my favourite hotels. The staff were very friendly, especially the Restaurant Manager - sadly did not get his name. The Moroccan restaurant served the best Lamb Tagine I had in Morocco and the breakfast was definitely among the best we had on our trip. The swimming pool was lovely and the seating around it was very appealing. I would come back to Fes just for the hotel!
Located in the hustle and bustle of the Fez Medina, you’re right in the middle of the action and get to experience the full Medina lifestyle. Karim is an amazing owner/host, no request is too small or hard for him to help out with, he’ll help out with booking tours and bus tickets and will also give top tips on how to best deal and navigate some of the city’s tourist traps. An amazing stay for the price!
Our stay at Road Ramo was amazing. Zakaria our host was so kind and helped us find our way around the city and gave us a full plan for our stay and recommend lots of amazing sites (even went and bought some products in the Medina for us). The room was spacious and clean and the breakfast was the best we had in Morocco. Will 100% come again when we visit Fes. Value for money here is amazing.
Beautiful riad in the middle of the Fes medina! The rooms are big, beautiful and authentic and the staff is very friendly. When we couldn’t find our way through the maze that is Fes, someone from the hotel happily escorted us to our destinations. The pool is quite large for a riad and the roof terrace is amazing. Would definitely recommend staying here!
The hotel manager Mr. Reibal is a true professional who loves his job. All his work is focused on the satisfaction of his guests. Riyadh is in a very convenient location. Just outside and near the Medina. No need to look for a hotel in narrow streets. The staff is very attentive. Together with Mr. Reibal they are very attentive to help with everything.
Great hospitality of all the staff and the owner. The house is located in a quiet area but in the heart of Medina, and still easy to find from the guidance. Shower was great, Breakfast was excellent and probably the best I have tasted among all the Riad stays i had in Morocco:). Will definitely come back here if I cross Fes again. Highly recommended!
Mourad made our stay at Faracha Fes so memorable & comfortable. He went way beyond our expectations and thanks to his advice and help, we really enjoyed our stay in Fes. He is one of the highlights of our Morocco trip, and we wished we could stay longer at Faracha Fes. Highly recommend this facility (the narrow path to the hotel is def a bonus)!!
One of the best to stay in Fes. Well located, clean, comfortable. Rooms have a lovely view of Fes. Terrace also has a full view of Fes and its quite useable. Our host Omar was so very kind, attentive and helpful. Thank to him our stay in Fes got much more better.
The kitchen of the hotel was also very delicious. I’d recommend to give it a try.
Our stay and the Riad Drissia was the most pleasant. Khalid and his family were very nice, helpful and welcoming.
The Riad is located in a sweet spot near most touristic attractions in the Medina.
We had dinner there on our last day in Fes, and it was the best meal we’ve had.
I’d recommend Riad Drissia to anyone travelling to Fes.
Best stay we had in Morocco! The people working here are so friendly, helpful and helped us with whatever we needed! Also the most beautiful Riad we stayed in during our travels in Morocco. The suite we had was by far the best and biggest room we had. Would 100% recommend. If we ever come back to Fes we will stay here again.
Excellent hospitality from the staff, the best Riad we have been throughout our trip around Morocco.
The owner and the operators are lovely and genuinely interested in making sure we'd have a brilliant stay.
Stunning terrace with panoramic view on the Medina of Fes. Quality restaurant too.
Highly recommended
Our trip in Morocco could not start better than this: a traditional, cozy and very well located riad in the heart of the medina! The place is amazing and the staff is simply the best we had in Morocco. Hamza and Mahmoud are friendly, professional and very good at what they do. I will definitely come back.
The best thing about this property was the team. From the moment you walk in until you are saying your goodbyes, they made us feel like Fez was our home. Don’t book anywhere else in Fez! The cooking class is a must do. And the roof top spaces give you a beautiful view of the Medina.
Incredible Ryad in Fes. In the heart of the medina, with an amazing courtyard that allows you to get away from the hectic crowds of the medina.
The staff is amazing and the breakfast are the best we've had in Morrocco!
Amazing experience. We had the opportunity to celebrate a holiday with the host's family. The terrace has a great view of Fes and the surrounding mountains. Our stay here has been our best experience in Morocco.
It was a perfect stay , close to medina.
We had dinner from Riad one night and it was the best meal we had from our entire Morocco trip .
They helped with suggestions for our Morocco trip as well
