I love NYC. I find something new every time I visit. The city has so much to offer. I have walked every time I have been there and that is the best way to see this beautiful city. My last visit I was able to walk the Brooklyn Bridge and that was so awesome seeing the view of Manhattan . In December, I went to the Rockettes Christmas show and felt just like a child again. The show was captivating, and I didn't want it to end. I love to see The Statue of Liberty and every time I see it, I am so impressed with her. I pay my respect to the 911 Memorial and think it is a beautiful tribute to those who lost their lives. There is so much to see and so much culture and history in NYC.
We loved the Museum of the Moving Image. I am a frequent museum go-er but had never heard of this museum. Since it was right around the corner from where we were staying, my husband and I decided to go -- and were we ever surprised and impressed. We could have spent all day there. Words can't describe how great this place is. If you are a movie or TV buff, this is a must-see. Even if you are not (like me), you should still go. I'm sure you'll be bowled over with this place.
Brooklyn is one of the most diverse places on Earth. Old, new, rich, not-so-rich. Every cuisine and kind of neighborhood. Prospect Park is in great shape and safe. The new(ish) waterfront parks by the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights are in super condition and have great view of lower Manhattan. Walking the bridge is a really highlight. So much more reasonable than staying in Manhattan too, and just a really short subway ride to all the best lower Manhattan attractions and neighborhoods. People have a lot of crazy ideas that big cities are bad and broken in the USA. It’s just not true in Brooklyn. It’s a great place that’s better than it was 20-30 years ago.
If you're going to NYC, I assume you've done your homework. The only negative (which applies to the US in general), is the tipping culture. 20 - 25% is the norm. Coming from the UK where 10% is standard and accepted as normal, anything more than this is a cultural shock.
Brooklyn is my home town, so im very familiar with how to get around. This hotel happen to be walking distance to one of my favorite bargin stores of all time. This hotel has a bus stop right in front of it that take you express into the city. During my stay i would walk the few block to the train station and once i was done with my day in the city i would take the express bus straight to the hotel, what a luxury. I always enjoy my time in New York !
One has to walk Manhattan to get to know the city: Walking Central Park from north to south, walking in Greenwich village and Tribeca, visiting Pier 17, Dumbo, Pier 35 and Little Island, walking in upper West End and upper East End are "must dos". Visiting Edge in Hudson Yards can give another perspective of the city. Can't get enough of NY!!
